The Benefits of a Creative Practice Workshop

The workshop is a deeper dive into why we can all benefit from developing an art-making practice and the forces that can keep us blocked from engaging with our creativity.

The presentation portion of the workshop covers such topics as:

  • how surprising insights can surface by tapping into our visual minds

  • understanding creative blocks and how to clear them

  • encouraging process over creating a perfect final product

  • tailoring your practice by exploring different art materials

  • painting as a tool for mindfulness and mental health

Participants are then invited to take the first steps on their creative journey by learning the basics of acrylic painting. Calling on her over 20 years of experience as a painter, Athena teaches participants the basics of tracing a design onto a canvas, applying paint and blending colours.

Included in the workshop price is a complete painting supply kit for each participant to take away with them to ensure that they can leave the workshop with everything they need to continue exploring their creativity.

Additional Resources

“I can’t even draw a stick figure” is an often repeated refrain that we hear when we invite people to engage in art-making. Sadly this fear of ‘drawing badly’ makes so many adults skittish about even attempting a creative practice. In Athena’s blog post, “Embracing the ‘Ish’” she writes about a children’s book where a young boy gets his artistic groove back by letting go of his need for realism.
